FTIP Unpad and FKPT-TPI Hold a National Seminar discussing Research and Education Collaboration with Industry

The Faculty of Agricultural Industrial Technology, Padjadjaran University and the Indonesian Higher Education-Agricultural Technology Communication Forum (FKPT-TPI) held a National Seminar with the theme “Research and Education Collaboration with Industry to Increase the Competency and Competitiveness of Graduates”. Seminar activities were held at Bale Sawala, Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor, Thursday (16/11/2023).

Present at the activity included the Director of Technology Research and Community Service at the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Ir. Faiz Syuaib, MAgr., IPU., Deputy Chancellor for Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc, Dean of FTIP Unpad Dr. Ir. Sarifah Nurjanah., M.App.Sc., Head of the BRIN Appropriate Technology Research Center, Achmat Sarifudin, S.TP., M.Sc., Ph.D, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, IPB University Prof. Dr. Slamet Budijanto, Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology and Agroindustry-University of Mataram Baiq Rien Handayani, SP., M.Sc., Ph.D., Professor of FTIP Unpad Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Roni Kastaman, MSIE, Commissioner of PTP VIII, Adrian Zakhary STP, MSE., Founder of the Give Protein Indonesia Foundation, Yoggie Arry, STP, Chair of FKPT-TPI, Dr. Alfi Asben, Head of the Research Center for Sustainable Production Systems and Life Cycle Assessment, Nugroho Adi Sasongko ST., MSc. PhD, Director of Quality Institute, Sumarna, SE, Ak, MM, and members of the community at FTIP Unpad.

Dr. Ir. Sarifah Nurjanah., M.App.Sc as Dean of FTIP Unpad in her speech said that this collaboration was not only to increase the competency of graduates but also to prepare them to face various increasingly complex problems in the industrial world which has entered the industrial era 4.0 and the needs of society which are also increasingly complex.

“We believe that currently collaboration is a necessity and a necessity, to answer the global challenges we are currently facing, especially facing the industrial era 4.0,” he said.

Sarifah further said that concrete steps were needed in this collaboration so that all parties could play an active role in responding to society’s current challenges and problems. The Cooperation Agreement between universities and industry is the first step in that direction.

“Apart from seminars, this activity will also hold MOU/PKS signings between universities and with other government agencies and industry, this is our first step in answering all of that,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendarmawan, M.Sc, representing the Chancellor of Unpad, said that he supports activities like this and hopes that the research carried out will be able to compete at the national level and even have international standards.

“The research we carry out must be up to date, both in terms of efficiency, technology and in this case standards, truly international standards,” he said.

Hendarmawan further added that the research carried out must also be able to advance people’s lives through local wisdom.

“We also have an advantage, namely local wisdom, one side of technology which is so fast in developed countries, it feels like we continue to focus on standardizing technology from developed countries. The right turn is how to combine local wisdom in our country as well as from the social and engineering side. ” he added

Regarding food security in Indonesia, Hendarmawan also reminded that efforts to achieve food security must also consider climate change and energy.

“Some are thinking about or giving space to sectors not only food which is related to food security but also thinking about climate change and energy. I am sure that you can develop it so that we can solve the challenges we are facing. “Along with the presence of business actors, I think like it or not, this is link and match research and another thing is that with industry updates and our high use, this is the moment we are waiting for,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the Committee and also the Chair of the Agricultural Industrial Technology Study Program, Dr. Efri Mardawati in her speech said that apart from the National Seminar and the Signing of the MoU between Universities and Industry, this activity was also combined with other activities including the Lembang Fieldtrip, Gala Dinner; national innovation competition participated by lecturers, students and alumni; West Javanese cultural performances: Angklung Udjo and FTIP harp; as well as exhibitions of innovative products.

“This activity was attended by 25 deans and deputy deans, 105 heads of study programs, study program secretaries, department heads, department secretaries, and the remaining 27 were lecturers and journal managers. “176 people were presenters from universities throughout Indonesia and 73 people took part in the innovation competition,” said Efri.
